A Revolutionary ED Treatment

Hello there, and welcome back to the Charleston Men’s Clinic blog! If you’ve been keeping up with our previous posts, you are probably aware of the fact that we are a men’s sexual health clinic located in Charleston that specializes in helping men with issues related to erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and low testosterone. For years, men have had very few options when it came to effective ED treatment. Apart from pills and shots that only treated the superficial issues of their ED, most men simply had to pick a “band-aid” treatment that didn’t really treat the underlying conditions that were giving them issues. In today’s post, we wanted to go over a new treatment option that we are proud to offer to all of our patients, the GAINSwave. Keep reading below to learn more.

Treat the Problem, not the Symptoms.

When it comes to treating erectile dysfunction, there are few options that actually work to treat the problem and not just the symptoms. Erectile dysfunction is an issue that plagues millions of men across the nation and, in our opinion, is a condition that deserves more attention than it currently receives. In order to help as many men as possible treat their ED, we are excited to be able to offer GAINSWave therapy to patients in Charleston. The GAINSWave, developed by Richard Gaines, anesthesiologist turned physician, makes use of low-intensity shockwave therapy. This therapy has existed in modern medicine for decades though it has primarily been used to help with the loss of localized fat tissue and to break up kidney stones by using high-frequency acoustic waves that can travel through skin and muscle into the tissues below the surface of the skin. While the technology has been used in this way for decades, it wasn’t until about 15 years ago that researchers in Europe realized that the same technology could help treat patients suffering from ED.

How Does GAINSWave Therapy Work?

During GAINSWave therapy, acoustic pulse waves are applied to the penis in the hopes that the waves will break up micro plaque that is present in the blood vessels of the penis while simultaneously creating a micro inflammatory process that releases nitric oxide, a vasodilator and the main chemical component that is used in ED medication. In addition to these effects, it is thought that the GAINSWave may also help to stimulate dormant stem cells contained within the penis, leading to improved erectile function and, in some cases, tissue growth. Eight to twelve weeks after the treatment, new blood vessels in the penis will have grown, providing the patients with the results that they were promised.
